Mitchell & Ness Babe Ruth New York Yankees Throwback Jersey Contrary to popular belief, 1916 was the first time a team affixed numbers on its uniforms. However, the 1929 Yankees were the first to feature numbers on the back. By 1933, all teams adopted this new standard. The most storied baseball player of all time wore # 3. Part of the prestigious Cooperstown Authentic Collection, this wool flannel throwback jersey has been carefully recreated to the specifications of that era with 3/4 length sleeves and a small standup collar. "Away Grey" body with "YANKEES" felt lettering sewn across the chest. This style jersey was a commonly worn throughout the 1920's by the Bronx Bombers. See note below cart for stock availability.
