The last season of the Iron Horse By the beginning of the 1939 season, it became evident to everyone around that the "Iron Horse", a legend who had not missed a ball game in nearly 14 years, was suffering from something far worse than a typical Major League slump. Finally, in May after a month into a new season, # 4 knew it too as he voluntarily removed himself from the starting lineup. Within two years, he would be deceased at the age of 38. Part of the prestigious Cooperstown Authentic Collection, this wool jersey is made to the specifications of that era. Solid off-white body and deep navy pin-stripes with a wider "NY" felt script logo sewn on the front left chest as it was back then. The left sleeve features baseball's 100th Anniversary patch as worn by all teams that year. Number "4", representing the Bronx Bombers cleanup hitter, adorns the back. This would be the last jersey the "Iron Horse" would wear as a Yankee. See note below cart for stock availability.
